Frequently asked questions

A full cord is 128 cubic feet, traditionally a stack 8 ft long, 4 ft high and 4 ft deep. That stack is exactly one cord.

Multiply the stack's length, width and height in feet and divide by 128. An 8 × 4 × 4 ft stack is one cord.

A face cord is 8 ft long and 4 ft high but only as deep as the log length, so it is usually a fraction of a full cord.

A cord assumes neatly stacked wood. Loosely thrown wood has more air gaps, so it holds less actual wood per cubic foot.

Enter the stack length. Enter the stack width (log length). Enter the stack height. Read off your cords of firewood, together with cubic feet — the calculator updates automatically, with no button to press.
