Required gross amount = Desired net amount ÷ (1 - Tax ÷ deduction rate ÷ 100)

Frequently asked questions

It is the gross amount required so that, after tax or deductions, a chosen net amount is left. To net 80,000 at 20% tax, you need 100,000 gross.

Gross = net ÷ (1 − tax rate as a decimal). Dividing reverses the deduction to find the starting figure.

Employers use it for bonuses, relocation and benefits where they want the employee to receive a specific amount after tax.
