Frequently asked questions

Add hits, walks and hit-by-pitch, then divide by at-bats plus walks, hit-by-pitch and sacrifice flies. The example gives about .357.

Batting average counts only hits over at-bats; OBP also credits walks and hit-by-pitch for reaching base.

An OBP around .340 is solid, and .400 or above is excellent in most leagues.

Getting on base creates scoring chances, so OBP is a key measure of offensive value.

Enter the hits. Enter the walks (bb). Enter the hit by pitch. Enter the at bats. Enter the sacrifice flies. Read off your on-base percentage — the calculator updates automatically, with no button to press.
