How to use the Plaster Calculator

The Plaster Calculator works out your plaster volume, along with 1 related figure in an instant. Enter wall length, wall height and plaster thickness and the result updates as you type — it is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser so your figures stay private.

  1. Enter the wall length.
  2. Enter the wall height.
  3. Enter the plaster thickness.
  4. Enter the wastage allowance.
  5. Read off your plaster volume, together with wall area — the calculator updates automatically, with no button to press.

Formula

The Plaster Calculator uses the formula:

Plaster volume = Wall length × Wall height × Plaster thickness ÷ 1000 × (1 + Wastage allowance ÷ 100)

Worked example

For example, with wall length of 10 m, wall height of 5 m, plaster thickness of 12 mm and wastage allowance of 1%, the plaster volume is 0.6600.

Inputs used
Wall length 10 m
Wall height 5 m
Plaster thickness 12 mm
Wastage allowance 1%
Results
Plaster volume 0.6600
Wall area 50.00

The amount of three-dimensional space an object occupies, measured in cubic units.
Area
The amount of two-dimensional space a shape covers, measured in square units.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply wall area by thickness, then add wastage. A 10×5 m wall at 12 mm with 10% waste needs about 0.66 m³.

Internal walls often use 12 mm; rough or external surfaces may need 15–20 mm in one or two coats.

Some plaster is lost to spillage, uneven walls and mixing, so 10–15% extra is sensible.

Multiply the wet volume by your mix's dry-material factor, which depends on the cement-to-sand ratio.

Enter the wall length. Enter the wall height. Enter the plaster thickness. Enter the wastage allowance. Read off your plaster volume, together with wall area — the calculator updates automatically, with no button to press.
