Frequently asked questions

Divide the seeds that sprouted by the seeds planted and multiply by 100. 85 sprouts from 100 seeds is an 85% germination rate.

It varies by plant, but 70–90% is common for fresh, viable seed. Old or poorly stored seed germinates less.

Place a known number of seeds on damp paper towel, keep them warm and moist, and count how many sprout after the expected time.

If only 70% germinate, sow extra seeds to reach your target number of plants.

Enter the seeds that sprouted. Enter the seeds planted. Read off your germination rate — the calculator updates automatically, with no button to press.
