Formula

The One Rep Max Calculator uses the formula:

Estimated 1-rep max (Epley) = Weight lifted × (1 + Repetitions completed ÷ 30)

Worked example

For example, with weight lifted of 80 kg and repetitions completed of 5, the estimated 1-rep max (epley) is 93.3.

Key terms explained

One rep max
The maximum weight you can lift for a single repetition of an exercise (1RM).

Frequently asked questions

Your one rep max (1RM) is the heaviest weight you can lift for a single repetition of an exercise. It is a key measure of strength used to plan training.

Formulas predict it from a lighter set. The Epley formula is weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30). For 80 kg lifted 5 times it estimates about 93.3 kg.

Different formulas give slightly different estimates. Showing both gives you a sensible range rather than a single figure.

Estimates are most accurate at lower rep counts, roughly up to 10 reps. Beyond that they become less reliable, so use a set in the 3–8 rep range when possible.

The One Rep Max Calculator uses the formula: Estimated 1-rep max (Epley) = Weight lifted × (1 + Repetitions completed ÷ 30). For example, with weight lifted of 80 kg and repetitions completed of 5, the estimated 1-rep max (epley) is 93.3.

Enter the weight lifted. Enter the repetitions completed. Read off your estimated 1-rep max (epley), together with 1rm (brzycki) and 90% of 1rm — the calculator updates automatically, with no button to press.
